What Do We Mean by Professional Skills
In this course, we use the term “professional skills” to refer to the blend of interpersonal, communication, managerial, and cognitive abilities that enable HFE professionals to effectively navigate the challenges that they face day-to-day. These challenges can be around interdisciplinary collaboration, advocating for user-centred design principles, and influencing project decisions and stakeholder perceptions.
Professional skills encompass the following abilities:
- Communicating complex HFE concepts to non-specialists;
- Negotiating and making trade-offs between user needs and technical constraints;
- Managing projects and resources efficiently;
- Navigating uncertainty; and,
- Building influence and credibility within and outside one’s organisation.
Professional skills are essential for bridging the gap between technical expertise and practical implementation.
In this course we will give you the tools and frameworks to deal with the sort of challenges that you might face as a HF Engineer.
