What Does HFE Look Like in Practice?
In practice, HFE involves a variety of activities that are intended to optimise the interactions between people and the things they use. Some examples of the types of activities that a HF Engineer would do include:
- Conducting user research to understand the needs, capabilities, and limitations of the people who will be using a product or system;
- Creating design specifications and guidelines that take into account the human factors principles and user research findings;
- Evaluating and testing designs to ensure that they meet the needs of the users and are easy to use and understand; and,
- Participating in design reviews and providing feedback to other members of the design team.
