HFE Within a Project

An HF Engineer can integrate with a project and influence design in several main ways:

  • Collaboration: HF Engineers can work closely with other members of the project team, including designers, developers, and other engineers, to ensure that human factors are considered throughout the design process.

  • Design Specification and Guidelines: HF Engineers can create design specifications and guidelines that take into account the human factors principles and user research findings. These guidelines can be used to ensure that the design of the system is user-centred and meets the needs of the users.

  • Training and Guidance: HF Engineers can provide training and guidance to other members of the design team on HFE principles and best practices.

  • Continuous Assessment: HF Engineers can continuously monitor and assess the usability and user satisfaction during the lifecycle of the product or system.

By integrating these activities into the project, an HF Engineer can help ensure that the design of the system is user-centred and meets the needs of the users, leading to increased user satisfaction, reduced errors, and improved productivity.

'Human-Connection-I' document from the CIEHF provides some case studies of Human Factors Engineering in practice.
